servers with compatibility problems must be excluded before the deployment can proceed. windows server 2012 r2. RDS, unable to connect to the server by using windows powershell remoting

while setting up RDS for AX on Widows Server 2012 r2, I got the below error
"servers with compatibility problems must be excluded before the deployment can proceed. windows server 2012 r2.To exclude the servers with compatibility problems, click Exclude." as below.
try to run below command on elevated PowerShell command.
"Enable-PSRemoting -Force"
in addition make sure, your server is joined to domain and the account you are using is a domain account and has local admin rights.

hope this will help.

while doing installation I got below error.
before that my team has installed only AOS and then uninstalled it.
by any chance he just removed the Dynamics AX folder from Program Files folder, but the setup files were listed in Programs list.
so I doubt it was cause of this and below error message was in log file.

Microsoft RDS , change password for RDS users

while setting RDS for dynamics AX, I got one requirement for password policy, password should expire in 90 days and then users should be able to change the password by their own.

here is how.
1st you can the policy in AD as usual it happens for policy of 90 days.

then use RDS setting to allow users to change password.

in your RD Web server, open IIS and then Sites->Default Web Site->RDWeb->Pages , then on right side, open Application Settings
now change the value "PasswordChangeEnabled" to true, if it was false.

then only the user will be able to browse the page https://<URL.local>/RDWeb/Pages/en-US/password.aspx

you need to send the link in email before their password expires.
also you can set the link in login page by a minor change in the code, so that user can change password at any time.
the page look like below

hope this helps someone surely...

Hide the Remote Desktops tab of Remote Desktop Web Access RDS

here is how you can Hide the Remote Desktops tab of Remote Desktop Web Access while configuring RDS. make sure you follow NOTE section at the end.

this I was doing for AX. so a common requirement from security angle is that users should be able to access remote desktop.

this you can do , by just changing some configuration as below in IIS.

open IIS and traverse RDWeb -> Pages -> Application Settings -> change "ShowDesktops" value to false from True.

below is the before and after screen

NOTE
below is the main trick. I think not many posts mention this.
if I browse the URL https://<URL.com.local>/RDWeb/Pages/en-US/desktops.aspx means just page desktops.aspx, then user can go in. so be careful and change the page name , so the default page can not be used by users.

hope this will help some one.
